Drilling Engineer – Gradient Resources

FULL TIME

About this Job:

Geothermal Developer Gradient Resources is seeking to fill the position of a Drilling Engineer.

The main Perform drilling engineering duties in support of Gradient Resources’ geothermal wellfield
drilling, well maintenance, well stimulation, and well testing activities.

Duties & Responsibilities

The following reflects management’s definition of essential functions for this job but does not restrict the tasks that may be assigned.  Management may assign or reassign duties and responsibilities to this job at any time due to reasonable accommodation or other reasons.

  • Actively participate in Gradient Resources’ Health, Safety, Quality, and Environmental
    (HSQE) program with a focus on continuous improvement in these areas with respect to well drilling, workover, stimulation, and testing activities.
  • Be accountable for knowledge of, and compliance with, all applicable regulations as well as Gradient’s HSQE training requirements and policies.
  • Prepare well drilling programs and procedures.
  • Perform casing and cementing design and write procedures for same.  Provide engineering assistance, as needed, during running and cementing operations in the field.
  • Work with drilling fluid companies to prepare drilling fluid programs for each well.
  • Work with directional drilling companies to develop directional programs, including well paths, to intersect targets as designated by Geoscience Department.  As wells are drilled, monitor actual well paths against plan and recommend corrective actions, as needed.
  • Prepare well data sheets for design for drilling equipment.
  • Design and select wellhead equipment.
  • Work with Director of Permitting to insure all well work is properly permitted.
  • Work with Gradient Engineering personnel on evaluation of electrical submerged pumps (ESP) and line-shaft pumps (LSP) for production wells. Coordinate and supervise installation of same.
  • Assist engineering and other personnel to solve operating problems.  Work with scientific, engineering, and technical personnel to resolve design, research, and testing problems.
  • Monitor the daily progress of well operations and current daily costs, comparing actual costs with approved well budget.  Recommend changes or improvements to rig work techniques, in order to optimize well expenditures.
  • Write technical reports for engineering and management personnel.
  • Take an active role in improving rig and wellfield safety through engineering.
  • Comply with all environmental protection standards.
  • Coordinate and supervise the work of the drilling team, as required from time-to-time.
  • Specify and supervise well modification and stimulation programs to maximize oil and
    gas recovery.
  • Evaluate findings to develop, design, or test equipment or processes.
  • Work with multi-disciplinary professionals to evaluate the commercial viability of completed wells.
  • Interface with drilling personnel, contractors, other operators and government personnel.
  • Review and approve hazard surveys.
  • Perform internal and external drilling-related benchmarking.  Research methods for improving safety, lowering drilling costs, and improving productivity or injectivity of wells.
  • Analyze drilling data and prepare well reports.  Coordinate and communicate end of well reviews.
  • Serve as a primary liaison to Gradient’s Director of Permitting and/or outside governmental
    regulatory offices regarding drilling and workover activities.

No Supervisory responsibilities

Work environment:

  • Office and field environment based in Fallon or Reno, NV.
  • Some travel will be required.

 

Requirement:
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering discipline or equivalent preferred.
  • Six or more years’ operational experience in the drilling industry or equivalent.
  • Experience working in the geothermal industry preferred.
